Welcome to Department of Medical Education & Research
The Medical Education and Research department was established in 2005. The initiate was taken by the former Chancellor of EUSL Prof. T. Varagunam who is a pioneer in medical education in Sri Lanka. The department is dedicated to provide assistance in medical education and research in the faculty.
The department works closely with the office of the Dean in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation of the study programmes. Also, the department convenes curriculum committee, research committee and ethical review committee.
The present MBBS and BSc.Nursing curriculum is outcome based with integration of disciplines, problem based learning, early clinical exposure with provision for varied learning experiences to take place in the community and peripheral health facilities rather than restricting to the large teaching hospital. By organizing integrated modules and selecting study problems relevant to community needs and level of learning of students, education becomes relevant rather than memorize a massive amount of information which is usually forgotten.
The department also conducts inter professional courses for both medical and nursing undergraduates like a module on Peace Medicine to promote peace through health and in addition other co-courses like IT and English are coordinated by the department.
